I had heard from a few connections that podcasts were popular and that they really enjoyed listening to and learning from the episodes, so I decided to try it for myself.
I have always had a curious mind and enjoy learning new skills and gathering more information. Since my teen years, I have been watching TED (technology, entertainment, design) talks and have always kept an eye out for truly inspiring talks. I found a page that listed some of the best podcasts and for the last month, I’ve been listing to TED Radio Hour every time I’m in the car. I have to say that nearly every episode intrigues me – each one grabs my attention and I feel I learn something new every day on my drive to and from work. I have downloaded the all of the episodes from 2016 and 2017 and I’m working my way through them, with nearly one per day (about 45-50 min per episode). My favourite episode so far has been Hidden from July 7, 2017 – I will definitely have to delve further for more information and should probably watch the full TED talks from each of the speakers – it was a really cool episode.
I feel listening to clips from TED talks through this podcast will keep me aware and focused of what’s going on in the world. Each one talks about new technologies, advances in science, social change, communication, modern medicine, and so much more – one more avenue to information and understanding that I plan on utilizing. Some of these topics are really different, but great ideas and it is interesting to hear the stories behind the ideas. I don't even miss music during my drive, and encourage you to find a podcast that interests you learn something new!
