Firstly, Happy International Women’s Day! Congratulations to all of the Wonder Women I know (and to the ones I don’t know) for all of your achievements – for making your way up the corporate ladder, for going after an advanced education, for being strong entrepreneurs, and all the other great things that I know you are! We’ve come so far in the last 100 years!
According to the UN, the beginnings of International Women’s Day go back to the early 1900s. You can review the history of International Women’s Day here – all I can say it that I am so glad to have been born in this time. It must have been difficult to be a woman of the 1900s or earlier – boy, has the position of and attitude towards women changed (as have their rights)! I am SO grateful that I have a voice as a woman in the 21st century – I can vote, work, get a degree, travel, start my own business if I wish – the possibilities are limitless for women in this day and age!
International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate all that women have achieved. To thank the influential women and the leaders who have stood up for women and our place in the future. It is also a reminder for us that we are women with a purpose and a voice, supported by our partners, friends, families, colleagues and even strangers. So, spread your wings and fly ladies – you have the power, strength and freedom to go after what you want.
A millennial woman with 'old school' values, working my way through life in Canada and traveling when I can afford to. Seeking out my passions one day at a time.
